The Story
I originally photographed several North Texas Roller Derby matches, capturing the speed, impact, and energy of live play. After those shoots, the league asked me to create a series of individual portraits and team photos they could use across marketing and promotional materials.
The focus of this session shifted from action to identity. Each skater brought a distinct presence, and the portraits were designed to reflect confidence, personality, and team pride. Alongside the individual images, we created team shots that emphasized unity and strength, which are essential for branding in a competitive sports environment.
North Texas Roller Derby is always engaging to photograph, whether in motion or in a controlled portrait setting. The athletes are expressive, committed, and fully invested in the sport, which makes creating authentic sports portraits feel natural rather than staged.
This session stands as a strong example of portrait and team photography tailored for sports organizations. The images were built for real use, marketing, social media, and league promotion, while still capturing the character that makes North Texas Roller Derby what it is.
